Your Cradle Boat

When I was pregnant, I was busy “nesting” by decorating your nursery, painting letters to spell E-V-A, researching baby sleep schedules and nursing tips, and collecting baby girl necessities. In fact, I loved playing with your baby clothes, holding them up one by one, and folding them over and over. Some days I would pull them all out and organize them by color or size or season. I just loved to imagine holding you in the beautiful clothes!

Before you were born, your dad already loved you! And by the time you are old enough to read this, you’ll be well aware of one of the beautiful ways your dad shows love … by creating and building beautiful things.

When I was pregnant, your dad was so excited for you to be born. He could feel you move and kick inside my tummy, but he really wanted you to hurry up and get here so he could be physically connected with you too.

So he channeled his excitement into building you a cradle. Your dad and I have our own kayak boats, which we made together. He could already imagine going on adventures with you out on the water!

Your cradle is actually a ½ size wooden rowboat, sitting on rockers with a built-in platform for a bassinet mattress.

Your dad is so incredibly talented … everything he touches or makes turns out perfectly, and your cradle boat is no exception.

You slept in your cradle boat the first few nights we were home from the hospital, and you have napped in the cradle most every day of the first six months of your life.

It is a beautiful centerpiece in our living room, and it’s so fun to be able to have you napping in the middle of our home, where we can easily see you from most any room in the upstairs.

You really like it in there … I think you can feel that it’s made of love.
